Chimekey vs AutoIntercom
Both products automate building entry for short-term rental hosts with phone-dial callboxes. The key difference is how tightly each integrates with your booking calendar -- and what happens when a reservation is cancelled or modified.

How each product works
AutoIntercom routes your callbox's dial-out number to its platform. When a visitor presses the callbox button, the system answers with a voice prompt and opens the door when a valid code is entered. It supports fallback call forwarding if the system fails, and includes an audit trail of access attempts. Team member accounts are available on Professional and above.
Chimekey works the same way at the callbox level -- the dial-out number is changed to Chimekey's number, which answers every call automatically. The core difference is what drives the codes. Chimekey reads your Airbnb, VRBO, or Booking.com calendar and generates a unique code per reservation. That code exists only for the duration of the stay. When a reservation is cancelled, the code is deactivated immediately. There is no manual code management.
Booking platform integrations
AutoIntercom does not list integrations with Airbnb, VRBO, or any booking platform. Hosts manage codes manually. For occasional rentals or properties with predictable, low-volume bookings, manual code management is manageable. For hosts running active listings on multiple platforms, it introduces a maintenance task that has to happen correctly for every check-in.
Chimekey connects directly to your booking calendar via iCal (Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, or any platform that exports one) and via API for Hospitable. Every code is tied to a specific reservation. When a guest books, the code is created. When they check out, it expires. When they cancel, it is deactivated. Nothing requires manual action.
Compatible callbox systems
AutoIntercom works with standard wireless intercoms that are configured to dial a cell phone. It does not support intercoms that are wired directly to in-unit phones. No specific callbox brands are listed in its documentation.
Chimekey is compatible with DoorKing, Linear, Mircom, Aiphone, Viking, Fermax, Comelit, and other phone-dial intercom systems. If you are not certain your building's callbox is supported, you can check compatibility before committing to anything.
Pricing comparison
AutoIntercom charges by building. The Personal plan is $5/month for one building. The Professional plan is $25/month for up to five buildings. Enterprise is $125/month for up to ten buildings. All plans include a 14-day free trial.
Chimekey charges by unit at $10/unit/month (Host plan, up to 10 units) or $15/unit/month (Superhost plan, up to 30 units with Slack alerts, webhooks, and team seats). For a host with one unit in one building, AutoIntercom's Personal plan is less expensive. For operators managing multiple units per building, Chimekey's per-unit model may come out comparable depending on configuration.
Team and multi-unit management
AutoIntercom's Professional plan allows up to five user accounts across five buildings. The Enterprise plan adds unlimited users and ten buildings with priority support.
Chimekey's Superhost plan includes five team seats with role-based permissions, Slack integration for real-time access alerts, and signed HTTPS webhooks for pushing access events to your own systems. All accounts organize access by building and unit, with filterable access logs across the portfolio.
Which should you choose?
AutoIntercom is a reasonable choice if you want simple per-building flat-rate pricing and are comfortable managing access codes manually. The 14-day trial makes it easy to test without commitment, and the fallback call forwarding is a useful safety net.
Chimekey is the better fit if your booking volume is high enough that manual code management becomes a liability, or if you need reservation-synced codes that activate and expire automatically. It is purpose-built for short-term rental operators who want access tied directly to booking data -- not managed separately.
